Famous Last Words: Week 12

The semester has been busy and it has been a while since I have done one of the Last Word assignments. This week I decided to continue my reading of the comic books. I read 6 comic books this week so that I could work ahead and finish early this semester. I had enough time throughout the week to complete one comic book a day. I then wrote my reading diaries and submitted them all at once. I think working ahead helps me get the work done in an efficient and non-stressful way. By spacing the work out I can make sure that I can read the comics thoroughly to get the most out of them.

My best writing for the week has to be from my storybook. I have enjoyed writing and exploring the character of Ravana throughout the semester. I think making the storybook was a fun experience. I got to add some cool details to Ravana’s story and make up some plot twists. I have one more story to go and my storybook will be complete.

My other classes are getting extremely busy at this time of the semester. It is crunch time and every point matters at this point. I am trying to finish this class early so that I can focus all of my attention on other classes. I have calculated my grade and will only need to add one story and revise the story the next week to achieve an A in this class. I have learned a lot about India through this class and I am glad that I chose to take it. It is a good creative outlet from my rigorous science courses.

This week I also attended a Diwali Show. It was cool to see my sister and many of my friends perform for this festival. I had a great time at the show.

Famous Last Words Week 2

This is the end of week 2 in this class. So far I have enjoyed reading about the Ramayana. I got all of the assigned reading done for this week by following the daily schedule. My favorite part of the reading so far is the extensive detail that is put into every sentence. This feature of the Ramayana helps me to get a good picture of what is going on in the story. I am looking forward to finishing this weeks reading because I want to see how the book ends. This week was left on a cliffhanger because Sita was just kidnapped by Ravana.

My best writing for this week had to be my storytelling post. A lot of my classes this year are purely science-based so I am always writing about different scientific concepts. This class allows me to be more creative in my writing and use my imagination. I thought that I created a cool new twist to the fight between Viradha and Rama. I enjoyed putting the story in the context of the modern day music industry.

One of my classmates this week has written about the story of when Rama strung Shiva’s bow to win Sita’s hand in marriage. I thought my classmate put an interesting twist on the story by making Sita have a more independent role in the story (spoiler alert). Instead of her being just the prize of the competition she was a contestant. She entered in disguise and won her own freedom to choose the man she would marry.

So far my other classes at the University of Oklahoma are going well. It is still early in the semester so there have not been many exams. This week I will expect it to get a lot busier because exams are approaching. Here is the link and source to the story I was talking about earlier.

Famous Last Words Week 1

Writing has never been one of my major strengths. It is something I have always struggled with in school. Whenever I write for an assignment I have to put a lot of time into it. I am currently applying for medical school and I think my best writing for this week has been on my secondary applications. I talked to a friend who is also going through the application process and he gave me some good tips when approaching the essays that I will have to write. Some of the tips he gave me were to submit the application as soon as possible, use my experiences and fit it into the school’s philosophy of teaching medicine, and to elaborate on everything I say so my writing is truly unique. I kept all of these tips in mind while I was writing my essays this week. I think I did a good job of employing the tips. I felt like I never had trouble figuring out what to say because these tips gave me so many different ideas. Although there is a million other things I would rather be doing than writing these tedious essays I stay positive and focused. To get into the writer’s groove I set several goals for the day the night before. When I have my goals in mind I have a clear idea of the steps I have to take to accomplish them. Hopefully my hard work will pay off.

On a completely unrelated note I watched the Video Music Awards this weekend. I really enjoy music. My favorite performances were by The Weeknd and Justin Bieber. It was interesting to see Taylor Swift present the lifetime-achievement award to Kanye West towards the end of the show. His speech was awesome and I thought it was crazy how he announced that he is going to run for president in 2020.
